This morning I braved the rain and headed out to the Post Office to get stamps for the office. As usual, I chatted with the ladies at the counter for a few minutes and they brought up the topic of the postage rate increase. I commented “Yeah, my mom thinks I need to go ahead and buy the postage for my wedding invitations.” At this, one lady quickly said “wait right here, I have to show you something!” She rushed away, then came back holding these…

44 Cent Stamp

61 Cent Stamp
The new wedding stamps, aren’t they just adorable?? After the stamp fiasco that my friend Vixen went through just a few weeks ago (she had to add $.17 stamps featuring a bright blue ram to her invites and was quite upset about it) I am so glad to know that our invitations will be adorned with these gorgeous little numbers. Ahhh, one less thing to worry about.

Now that we have hit the 6 month mark, it’s time to send out “Save the Dates” to our guests so that they can plan accordingly. I spent quite a bit of time checking out different websites to see what our options were and that is how I found www.magnetstreetweddings.com. The Mandolinquent and I had already decided that we wanted to do magnets, since we know other people who have used them and they are just so handy and cute! Magnet Street has a ton of adorable designs that you can customize with your own photo, color scheme and wording. After bouncing design ideas around for a couple of weeks, we finally came up with the design below. They were ordered late last week and will hopefully be showing up in a few days. It makes me happy to think that soon our beaming faces will be adorning refriderator doors from New York City to the Puget Sound and a bunch of places in between!

Howdy faithful readers! I hope all three of you are enjoying your weekend so far
Today the Mandolinquent and I went shopping, and while we were out I coerced him into trying on a suit and tie so that I could play with color combos for the wedding. So far he has been very adept at dodging my gentle requests for suit shopping trips, but today I ambushed him.
It all began with my need for a carry-on sized bag for next weekend’s trip. We went into several stores, but I couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for (this happens occasionally). The Mandolinquent had had enough shopping for a bit and needed a refreshment, so he dropped me off at the next store and went to Sonic Happy Hour. While on my way to the luggage area of the store, I spotted a great tie in menswear. By the time the Mandolinquent found me I had a hand full of ties and several shirts all ready for him to try on. He knew it was futile to resist and so he made his way to the dressing room. After about an hour of trying suit/tie/shirt combos, we found something that just might be the ticket! Take a look at the photos below and let us know what you think.

*note: The Mandolinquent did not tie this tie. He claims that it would have looked much better if he had.

Last night the Dobro Diva, Brother Bookworm, Little Miss Sunshine, and I went to see the single showing of a documentary centered around a refreshing liquid that is quite near and dear to the hearts of the Bookworm and myself…Beer! Beer Wars (see trailer below) takes an inside look at some of America’s craft brewers, as well as the three behemoth brewers in this country. Even if you aren’t a beer enthusiast (advocate?) Beer Advocate
like Bookworm and me I believe you would enjoy learning about the struggles faced by small business owners, whether they be brewers, bakers, or candlestick makers, when they try to compete with the corporate giants.
My tank (pint) is now empty, so until next time…

We get married 6 months from today!
Now the countdown really starts… All of the things that we put off until it got closer have to start getting done. We also still have to figure out where to register! I have to convince the Mandolinquent to go suit shopping, drive to Enid for a cake tasting, drive to Dexter, KA for a dress fitting, etc… So much to do, but so much fun too!

Storybook Photography!
A few weeks ago we asked a bunch of you to help us pick our wedding photographer. After months of research we had narrowed the list down to five great photographers, but we needed help deciding. We really enjoyed reading the votes and input from our friends and family, but we still weren’t 100% until I received an email with an offer too good to refuse.

The offer we couldn't refuse.
The offer had us hooked, but we thought it best to meet the people before deciding so we set an appointment. It was a regular Tuesday evening when we started the journey to Broken Arrow. We followed the directions turn for turn until eventually we entered a fancy new subdivision and pulled up to a cream-colored stone house with a gorgeous wrought iron door. We rang the bell and stood giddy with anticipation (ok, maybe
I was the only giddy one) as Jackie opened the door. We visited for over an hour and when it was over we signed the contract, put down our deposit and skipped all the way home. I can’t really tell you which was more fabulous, our photographer or her home, but when we left we had every confidence that our wedding day would be captured perfectly.

A couple of weekends ago the Mandolinquent and I ventured to Dallas to meet up with Dulcimer Dad and Brother Bookworm (a.k.a. Mandolinquent’s dad and brother) for the North Texas Irish Festival. Also joining in the fun was my BFF Mouthy Martha, who came to hang out with us since her Muscle Man was out of town.
While the guys headed straight for the festival on Saturday morning, Mouthy Martha and I went shopping for bridesmaid’s dresses. We worked up quite an appetite, so we decided to stop at Freebird’s for a burrito.
The big deal about Freebird’s is that it is an Aggieland institution. We ate many a burrito during our college years and when we saw that they had opened one in Dallas we were overjoyed!
While we were there, the Mandolinquent sent me a text asking for food (surprise, surprise) so I got him one to go. As you can see, it was a real hit!

Mandolinquent + Freebirds = Love

So delicious, Martha couldn't resist!

Brother Bookworm sampled a bit too!

The obligatory foil art. He made a tiny fiddle...aww.

Cinderella once said, “The right pair of shoes can change your life”. Ok, maybe she didn’t but I have seen this quote floating around the internet so it must be true, right?
Anyway, I have found the PERFECT pair of shoes for my wedding day and I am totally convinced that they will make the day even better. Ladies, are you with me? Don’t you agree that a great pair of shoes makes you walk taller, smile bigger and feel thinner? Well I think they do. Prepare to be amazed… here they are… *sigh*

Ok, I have had a few questions about the title of the blog and so I think I should explain.
Dobro Diva - I play the musical instrument called a dobro. Basically that is an acoustic steel guitar. If you’re not sure you know what it is…Google it
Mandolinquent - This comes from a joke once made by our good friend, Tim. “Mando” for mandolin, aka Scott’s instrument of choice, and “linquent” like “delinquent”. Basically a person who is mandolin crazy, like my Fiance.
